Goodbye, Children

So Chef is leaving South Park

I find it interesting that Issac Hayes has been doing Chef's voice for like ten years, and call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure they were making fun of religion back then as well. Of course, they just recently hit Scientology, which is what offended Hayes in the first place. I tell ya man, Scientology makes people KWAAZY!!!

Maybe he should go burn down the Comedy Central building in protest.

I pointed out to a friend that he probably did have more room to be offended than other religious people. Consider, for instance, the dialogue at the end of the Mormon episode:

"Maybe us Mormons do believe in crazy stories that make absolutely no sense, and maybe Joseph Smith did just make it all up. But I have a great life and a great family. And I have the Book of Mormon to thank for that!"

You know, compared to the Scientology end:

"I'm not the reincarnation of L. Ron Hubbard, and Scientology is just a big, fat, global scam."

They go on to portray Scientologists as sue-happy bastards. You know, even though it's completely true that Scientologists are sue-happy scamming bastards, they dealt with it with much less sensitivity than they do other religions. (As well they should have, I would argue; Scientology deserves nothing but derision, not serious consideration. Scientology doesn't have happy families to show for its message. It has crazies like Tom Cruise.)

Anyway. Chef has been pretty much irrelevant recently. His last really good moment was in the 6th season, and he hasn't sung a song since the 4th. I'll miss him, but that Scientology episode was very good. It was probably worth it.

Well!

Just a rumor column, of course, but considering Scientology's history it wouldn't surprise me if a higher-up made him quit.

Heh did you see it on Wednesday? I loved the rehashing of all of chef's old audio. And I'm here to tell ya, dying by both Mountain Lion AND a Grizzly Bear is rough.

"We shouldn't blame Chef for what he did. We should blame that crazy group who brainwashed him." -Kyle

Oh my gosh...that last episode was brilliant! Well, even though I missed the beginning...:( I'll have to catch the rerun. I knew Parker and Stone would find the perfect way to let Chef go!

By the way, a friend told me last night that Issac Hayes really left because he had a stroke. Granted, she read it on Fark...I dunno...
